The fastest way to lose a portfolio is to treat client work as a job and personal work as the art. Visitors can tell.

Same Bar, Both Files

I keep one running standard: the project I'd put first in my own portfolio. Every client build gets measured against that, not against the brief. The brief is a starting line, not a ceiling.

It changes small things — an extra pass on the empty state, a real loading animation instead of a spinner, copy that sounds like a person wrote it. None of it is in the scope. All of it shows up in how the site feels.

"Ship it like the homepage of your own studio."

Care Compounds

The small care you put into a project becomes the next project's baseline. After a few rounds you can't go back — you've raised your own floor. That's the long game.

Build like the work has your name on it, because it does.
